KHS vs the city council

Please help support the Kingston Humane in the fight for pay increase for pound services.

"The Kingston Humane Society has been involved in discussions with City hall staff around our contract to provide pound services to the city. As our costs have risen significantly we can no longer afford to provide the service without a large increase.

City staff are making a recommendation to City Council that a Request for Proposal for pound services be issued. This matter will be discussed at t...he City council meeting on Tuesday June 19th.

Should the KHS stop being the pound, animals impounded may become vulnerable to pound seizure laws; in otherwords, after 72 hours a lab can requisition the animals and they must be turned over for research purposes.

I encourage everyone who is concerned about this to notify the Mayor and their city councillor that they want the City to ensure that any future agreement regarding pound services include a clause that animals will not be made available for research purposes whether the agreement is with KHS or an alternate service provider.

For those of you who are not City of Kingston residents I believe you still have a right to make your opinions on this matter known to City council if you so choose. Animals don't see borders after all and some of the municipal boundaries are laid out so that an animal may be in one municipality one moment and another in the next and then back again" (taken from Kingston Humane Society post on Facebook).
