The Kingston Humane Society is strongly urging everyone to please leave your loving pets at home in the safe cool air. Animals should be in a well ventilated area and should have plenty of water. Dogs and cats can easily suffer from heat stroke, please vist KHSs website for information on signs of heat stroke and steps you can take to prevent it. http://www.kingstonhumanesociety.ca/index.cfm?page=newsbrief&article=452
I have created this blogg in hopes that it can unite the loving dogs here with their new forever family.
I have walked most (if not all) dogs posted here. I will also announce any events coming up regarding the Kingston Humane Society.
All dogs posted on this blog are either at or have been at the Kingston Humane Society.
If you are interested in any dog, just comment here or call the Kingston Humane Society and ask about the dog.

KHS vs the city council
Please help support the Kingston Humane in the fight for pay increase for pound services.
"The Kingston Humane Society has been involved in discussions with City hall staff around our contract to provide pound services to the city. As our costs have risen significantly we can no longer afford to provide the service without a large increase.
City staff are making a recommendation to City Council that a Request for Proposal for pound services be issued. This matter will be discussed at t...he City council meeting on Tuesday June 19th.
Should the KHS stop being the pound, animals impounded may become vulnerable to pound seizure laws; in otherwords, after 72 hours a lab can requisition the animals and they must be turned over for research purposes.
I encourage everyone who is concerned about this to notify the Mayor and their city councillor that they want the City to ensure that any future agreement regarding pound services include a clause that animals will not be made available for research purposes whether the agreement is with KHS or an alternate service provider.
For those of you who are not City of Kingston residents I believe you still have a right to make your opinions on this matter known to City council if you so choose. Animals don't see borders after all and some of the municipal boundaries are laid out so that an animal may be in one municipality one moment and another in the next and then back again" (taken from Kingston Humane Society post on Facebook).

Reba, Monty, Elwood, Duncan, and Goofy
Hello everyone!
Meet the new available dogs at Kingston Humane Society!
I have been away this past weekend for my grandmother's 70th birthday, and have gotten my wisdom teeth out monday.
In my absence KHS have multiple new dogs available; Reba, Monty, Elwood, Duncan, and Goofy.
Reba is Female Boxer/Mix.
Monty is a Male Pug/Mix.
Elwood is a Male 10 month Retriever Labrador/Mix. (no photo was available on the KHS site)
Duncan is a year and a half Irish Wolfhound/Mix; looks like he needs some
grooming.
Goofy is a year old Male black and white Boxer/Hound.
I will be adding a post for each dog - as I have done for others - after I return to walking at the KHS (hopefully very soon).

Elvis
Elvis is a 2 year old male Husky mix. Elvis was surrendered by his family as they were unable to care for him.
Sniffing around |
Elvis suffers from separation anxiety and will need a patient new family to help him work through it. He could benefit from a country home with a secure outdoor pen. The outdoor pen will give him a place to stay while his family is away. Any close neighbours would not enjoy the company of Elvis as he will sing his sorrows when also. No close neighbours would be necessary!
So happy during his walk |
If you think you can provide Elvis with a stable loving home please come to the Kingston Humane Society to meet him.

Great News!
Nova has spent 3 years and 18 days at the Kingston Humane Society. He will be missed, but everyone at KHS are happy for him.
Nova Chain (meaning acquired and spear) has gone to a few outings - been recognized as a rescue - and was such a good boy. His new owners recount his crate training achievments; "I also was able to crate him for a 10 minute shower and a 20 minute trip to the grocery store without barking incident."
We are all so happy for Nova Chain and his new family!

Do you have any empty kitty litter buckets?
Nova Sam
This is the unique Nova Sam. (Has been adopted)
He is a year and a half; believed to be a Podengo mix. Nova Sam is an active, charismatic, intelligent dog.
Nova Sam loves treats and is food motivated, this would be a good way to teach him how to do jobs for you. These new jobs would be great for everyone; you get your dog to do the simple jobs in life (example: getting your slippers in the morning), and he gets to have fun pleasing you. Staff at KHS believes Nova Sam would be suitable for a family with children over 6, but cannot live with cats. He just can't seem to settle when cats are in the room. Nova Sam has been good with most dogs at the KHS. A canine companion may be benefitial to him as it could help him burn off some steam.
Nova Sam has been with KHS for a while, so he is now part of their VIP program - his adoption fee is reduced by 25%. I know his forever home is out there; I hope he finds it soon.

Zoodles
Zoodles coming out of the grass after rolling around |
This is the discovering Zoodles. (has been adopted)
He is a 1 year and months old Beagle/Mix. He is very playful and just loves the outdoors. Zoodles (I call him 'Zoo' or 'Zoozoo' as well) loves to go in the tall grass and sniff then roll around in the grass.
Sniffing as he walked |
Zoodles is so excited at the beginning of his walks he is prone to pulling (he is learning not to). If you make a slight tug so he might understand you want him to slow down he should stop. If that does not work, I just stop walking and wait until he calms a little. With all puppy activeness sometimes this takes him a while to remember what he supposed to do, but after a while he catches on. Zoodles will need a patient owner to continue this, so he does not continue pulling on leash.
Zoodles rolling around |
Zoodles is a very happy dog. He is extremely eager to please you. Whenever you ask him to 'sit' he will happily do it (once he calms to listen)
Waiting to continue after we stoped |
Zoodles would love daily walks and a fenced yard to play in. He is so friendly and would love and active family with children over six.

'Biscuit'
Here is the handsome Shitzu, Biscuit. (Has been adopted) He is a 4 year old Shitzu. 'Biscuit' was a stray for near Palace Rd.
As you can see, he is in need of a hair cut. He is a cute little boy. 'Biscuit' seems to trot while he's walking. I believe he must have had an owner at some point of his life as he knows what the leash is. In the play pen, he ran around a bit then I noticed he wished to go. I showed him the leash and called him over and he came. (the only time he came while I was with him)
'Biscuit' reminds me of my old dog, Bentley. Bentley was a bit bigger as he was a bishon/poodle mix, but the hair colour is so similar, the type of hair is almost the same, and 'Biscuit's ' tail is just like the end of Bentley's.
He loves to run around and roll around on the grass. He is such a cute dog. I wish I could take him home. This is just the first time I've taken 'Biscuit' out, so I will add more the next time (unless he is adopted before then).

Bonnie
So happy during a belly rub |
Meet the sweet Bonnie.
Bonnie is 3 year old Beagle/Jack Russell Terrier mix medium sized dog. She loves to play ball, but may not always return it to you right away. She likes to play with the ball and let you have the ball when she's ready. I still like to play with her until she is ready to let go of the ball. If the ball is high enough Bonnie will even jump for it; I have seen her catch the ball once. Such a happy time playing.

Timothy
He looked away, just as the picture took |
Wants to continue his walk |
This is Timothy. (Has been adopted)
He is a 2 year old hound mix. He must be a mix of a beagle or some kind of another small dog as he is a medium sized dog; Timothy is a bit smaller than a Foxhound.

His hound genes will show through on walks. He LOVES to track whatever he smells. Timothy is always stiffing the ground as he walks with his tail wagging high.
He is so cute when he hears another dog across the tall grass, he will stand on his hind legs and try to look above.
Timothy is usually calm; with the exception of when he knows he's going for a walk. He starts to bark; it could sound angry, but he is just so excited. Once I get his leash on, Timothy stops barking.
A nice stride |
